"A Journey Worth Taking: My Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Experience "

Though I couldn’t officially complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the experience was unforgettable and full of personal growth. Our team trained for weeks after school, learning essential outdoor skills like setting up tents, cooking basic survival meals, reading maps, and most importantly, collaborating effectively under pressure. We also volunteered with primary school teachers, helping younger students with their learning. This experience taught me patience, responsibility, and the importance of clear communication.

For the physical section, I chose badminton as my weekly challenge. It not only improved my fitness but also enhanced my focus, coordination, and discipline. Our trial expedition took us to the stunning desert landscape of Zekreet, where we trekked for two days. We explored Film City, the Zekreet Peninsula, and the historic Zekreet Fort—each site revealing a unique facet of Qatar’s natural and cultural heritage. Despite the intense heat, fatigue, and rough terrain, our group pulled through with determination, supporting one another every step of the way. A dedicated and encouraging teacher guided us, helping us stay motivated and united.

When COVID-19 canceled the final qualifying expedition, it was deeply disappointing. However, the journey taught me far more than I could have imagined. I gained valuable skills in teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, adaptability, and resilience. While the award itself remains incomplete, the experiences I had and the lessons I learned were incredibly meaningful. It reminded me that true achievement lies not in a certificate, but in the growth, character, and memories built along the way.
